Explored Ayers Rock (aka Ularu)

September 2012 the Van Der Arks flew from to Ayers Rock via Sydney. It was a pretty tough flight as they ran out of peanuts....but we survived.

As you would expect it was quite warm but not too bad. We absolutely loved seeing the rock at the various times of the day....

Being serious exlorers we walked around the whole rock, more than 10 km, exploring many interesting caves and outcrops along the way.

You have to be very careful and take with you;  water, a first aid kit, and of course a map and compass.

It is an amazing place and the largest rock in the world.

Thats me in Lukla Nepal in Oct 2009 after returning from a pretty tough trip to Island Peak.

Lukla is in the Everest region of Nepal and many fly in to start their trek to Everest base camp from here..

My brother Mark and I were heading to Island Peak to do a bit of climbing.

It is a dangerous place though, the airstrip is one of the most dangerous in the world. In fact, the flight after ours into Lukla crashed into the mountain killing all 17 passengers. I also succumbed to quite a serious case of altitude sickness.

So get your bum over there but take care!

I think that's a Gnu we saw at Dubbo Zoo, and over on the right is a water based stalactite.

This was a super long icicle hanging from a rock at Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies.
