Chess - minutes to learn and a lifetime to master.

Chess is believed to have originated in Eastern India, circa 280 – 550 AD, where its early form in the 6th century was known as chaturaṅga, literally four divisions – infantry, cavalry, elephants, and chariotry, represented by the pieces that would evolve into the modern pawn, knight, bishop, and rook.

Around 1200, the rules started to be modified in southern Europe, and around 1475, several major changes made the game essentially as it is known today.

The 1972 World Chess Championship was a match between challenger Bobby Fischer of the United States and defending champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union.

The match took place in Reykjavík, Iceland and has been dubbed the Match of the Century, due to its Cold War implications.

" I don't believe in psychology, I believe in good moves."

Bobby Fischers reply to suggestions he was playing psychological mind games in the 1972 World Championship.
